Surrey Trust 1st Team Crowned Champions..

A combination of poor punctuality following the end of season party the night before and heavy traffic saw the majority of the surrey trust team arrive two minutes before the start of the final. This was quickly forgotten as captain Rogers (13) hit the first ball of the game for 4. However shortly after he missed a straight one. This left the stage for Kenway (105) to take over. He obliged hitting a flurry of boundaries. Graham (2) and Myers (4) fell at the other end leaving the trust side in trouble at 44-3. Ward (35) came to the middle and played the perfect supporting role for Kenway, knocking the ball into the gaps. Kenway carried on his merry way hitting a decent Sutton attach to all parts. The pair took the team to 140-4. Kenway was eventually dismissed for a superb 100, the best of the many he has amassed this season. Dorking kept battling away with key late order contributions from Charlie Edwards (14) Toby Blood (20) Andy Walker (9) and Will Edwards (14*). This saw Dorking finish on a competitive 252-9 from their allotted 40 overs.

A phenomenal tea was enjoyed before Dorking began their defence wary of a what a strong Sutton batting line up, who scored 270 against us earlier in the season, could do on a flat deck with short boundaries. Blood junior (1-19) and Ben Rogers (1-10) took the new ball both striking early to leave Sutton 19-2. Travis removing he dangerous Jaimin Patel, who scored an excellent 100 against us at pixham, with the help of a phenomenal catch from keeper Will Edwards down the leg side. Chris ward (1-28) Charlie Edwards (2-39) and Jack Myers (3-36) then took over, all bowling excellent tight spells to reduce Sutton to 146-8. They were supported by some excellent fielding from all of the Dorking players. Rehan Ratnasapabathy (86) batted very well for Sutton but eventually fell to Myers LBW. George Edwards (1-17) and Andy Walker (1-5) then came into the attack to finish Sutton off for 159 and seal the Wasim Raja trophy for Dorking.

A superb end to a mixed season which ended with silverware despite 4 losses in the group stage which illustrating the importance of winning when it matters. A big thank you to all 30 players who played a part in our campaign as well as our Umpire (Simon Bush) and our scorer (Lisa Fownes-walpole)
