Match Report: East Molesey CC 2nd XI vs Dorking CC 1st XI
Surrey Championship Division 3 West – 24 May 2025
Venue: Graburn Way
East Molesey claimed a hard-fought 51-run victory over Dorking CC in a low-scoring contest dominated by disciplined bowling and pressure-filled spells.
Having won the toss, East Molesey elected to bat first but quickly found themselves under pressure. Dorking’s bowlers, led by George Edwards (4-30 off 8.2), applied the squeeze early and maintained it throughout the innings. The wickets were shared around as Charlie Edwards (2-17 off 10), Dom Venn (1-9 off 5), Chris Ward (1-8 off 2), and Ben Rogers (1-38 off 9) all struck at key intervals.
At 70-5, East Molesey looked in trouble, but a crucial unbeaten 41 from C. Tottman and a gritty 17 from J. Moore helped the hosts recover to post 140 all out in 44.2 overs. Dorking’s fielders supported the bowlers well, with sharp catches and a run out contributing to a strong team performance in the field.
In reply, Dorking faltered early and never quite recovered. Despite a patient 13 from Chris Thurgood and a lively 16 from Ben Rogers, wickets tumbled regularly under sustained pressure from East Molesey’s attack. J. Moore (3-17), J. Akhurst (2-26), and T. Sreedevi (2-22) were clinical with the ball, restricting Dorking to just 89 all out in 30.2 overs.
With this result, East Molesey took the full 20 points while Dorking had to settle for 3 bonus points. The defeat sees Dorking sit 5th in the Division 3 West table after three matches, with key lessons to take into the next fixture.
Despite the setback, there were positive signs in Dorking’s bowling depth and fielding intensity. The challenge now will be to rediscover consistency with the bat to support their strong bowling unit.
