Skipper 5-Fer to begin league campaign.

Match Report: Ashtead CC 2nd XI vs Dorking CC 1st XI
Surrey Championship Division 3 West – 10 May 2025
Venue: Ashtead Cricket Club
Dorking CC launched their 2025 league campaign in emphatic fashion with a dominant 8-wicket win away at Ashtead CC, sealing the chase inside just 13.4 overs.
After losing the toss, Dorking were asked to bowl first on a pitch offering early assistance to the seamers—and they didn’t disappoint. Tom Penycate (1-11 off 8) set the tone with relentless accuracy, supported brilliantly by Chris Weill (1-11 off 5.1), Charlie Kenway (1-9 off 5), and Chris Ward (1-8 off 4), all of whom kept the pressure on with tight lines and miserly economy. However, the standout with the ball was captain Ben Rogers, whose probing spell earned him a well-deserved five-wicket haul (5-21 off 5), dismantling Ashtead's middle and lower order with ruthless precision and earning him the Man of the Match award.
Despite a stubborn 31 from Sam Gale, the home side struggled for fluency, eventually being bowled out for just 102 in 37.1 overs. Dorking’s bowlers combined patience with discipline, backed by sharp catching and energetic ground fielding that never allowed Ashtead to settle.
In response, Dorking lost Barney Davies early, but any nerves were swiftly settled by an electric counterattack. Charlie Kenway lit up the chase with a blistering 56 off 35 balls, dispatching 10 boundaries and a towering six to turn the game decisively in Dorking’s favour. Partnered by the ever-dependable Chris Thurgood (19* off 35), and a lively 11* off 9 balls from Dom Venn, Dorking crossed the line comfortably at 103/2 in just 13.4 overs.
The all-round display marked a statement win to kick off the league season for Dorking CC. With the bowlers firing and the top order looking sharp, it was a performance full of promise—and one that sets a strong foundation for the campaign ahead.
