Match Report: Dorking CC vs Reigate Priory CC (Surrey Cricket Championship - The Subba Row Plate)

Date: 29th April 2025
Venue: Park Lane

In the preliminary round of The Subba Row Plate, Dorking CC claimed a confident 34-run victory against Reigate Priory CC’s 2nd XI.

Dorking CC, having won the toss, elected to bat first and set a competitive total of 134/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Maduranga Zoysa anchored the innings with a well-paced 30 off 34 balls, including four boundaries. Valuable contributions came from Chris Ward, who remained unbeaten with 21 off 24 balls, and solid knocks from Chris Thurgood, Dom Venn, and Ben Rogers, each scoring 19. The Reigate bowlers made frequent breakthroughs, with Harry McInley leading the attack by taking three wickets for 24 runs, while Caleb Whitefoord supported with two wickets.

Chasing 135, Reigate Priory struggled to establish any lasting partnerships, collapsing to 100 all out in just 17.1 overs. Tommy Bates top-scored with a defiant 41 off 38 balls, but his efforts lacked substantial support, with only Luke Haughton and Bertie Morgan reaching double figures, scoring 16 each. Dorking’s bowling and fielding were clinical; Chris Ward spearheaded the attack with three wickets for just 13 runs in his 2.1 overs. Charlie Edwards (2 wickets for 23 runs), Charlie Kenway (2 wickets for 16 runs), and George Edwards (2 wickets for 7 runs) provided strong support, while Ben Rogers claimed a wicket, contributing to a disciplined bowling effort. The team’s energy in the field was exceptional, highlighted by several crucial catches, sharp stops, and overall enthusiasm that consistently applied pressure on the opposition.

Ultimately, Dorking CC’s comprehensive performance with both bat and ball secured their advancement in the competition with a decisive win.
