? MATCH REPORT: Dorking CC Edge Horsley & Send in a T20 Thriller!
Surrey Cricket Championship – The Subba Row Plate (Round 2)
Date: 9 June 2025 | Venue: Twinn’s Field New Square
In a sizzling Subba Row Plate clash that had everything from power-hitting to precision bowling, Dorking Cricket Club, captained by Chris Ward, pulled off a nail-biting 9-run win over Horsley & Send CC — a match that will live long in local cricket folklore.
First Innings: Dorking Dig Deep to Post 136
Winning the toss and choosing to bat, Dorking got off to a flyer thanks to a fearless innings from Ben Overton (43 off 35), peppering the ropes with five boundaries and two towering sixes. Chris Thurgood (37 off 47) provided the glue through the middle, rotating the strike while chaos reigned at the other end.
Late fireworks from Charlie Kenway (18 off 8), including two monster sixes, briefly reignited the innings before a flurry of wickets saw Dorking lose 6 for just 30 runs. Chris Ward chipped in with a handy 10 off 8, showing composure before falling to the returning Dan Collett, who finished with two wickets and a run out.
Dorking wrapped up their innings on 136/9 from 20 overs — a competitive total but far from safe.
Second Innings: Kenway Steals the Show as Bowlers Step Up
Horsley & Send made a steady start in pursuit of the target, with Zia Ashraf (57 off 57) playing a classy knock full of intent and timing. But with the required rate creeping up, Dorking’s bowlers began to turn the screw.
Maduranga Zoysa (4-1-10-1) was unplayable in the powerplay, while Chris Ward kept things tight. A sharp run out and safe hands in the deep kept Dorking in control.
The game reached boiling point in the final over with 13 needed to win and Ashraf still at the crease. Charlie Kenway, already influential with the bat, held his nerve under pressure. He removed danger man Ashraf, then dismissed Noor Wali first ball, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick but sealing the win in style.
Horsley & Send closed on 127/5, just shy of the mark — and Dorking erupted in celebration.
