Dorking CC 1st XI produced one of their finest run chases of the season, defeating Ashtead CC 2nd XI by two wickets in a thrilling Surrey Championship Division 3 West encounter.

After restricting the hosts to 206 all out, Dorking held their nerve in a tense finish, thanks to a superb unbeaten century from Maduranga Zoysa.

Ashtead elected to bat first but Dorking's bowlers quickly established control.

Chris Weill struck twice, removing James Ford and William Gillespie, while Tom Penycate produced another miserly opening spell, finishing with outstanding figures of 2-21 from nine overs, including two maidens.

Taha Suleman was the pick of the attack with excellent figures of 3-25, dismissing the dangerous Luke Patterson after his explosive 64 before also accounting for Hrithisshan Kanendran and Jake Martin.

Charlie Kenway, Ben Rogers and Dom Venn each chipped in with a wicket as Dorking bowled Ashtead out for 206 in 47.5 overs despite half-centuries from Luke Patterson (64) and captain Harry Williams (51).

Chasing 207, Dorking found themselves under pressure throughout the innings.

Barney Davies made 19 before falling, while Dom Venn, Charlie Kenway, Rob Chave, Ben Rogers and Taha Suleman all departed with the score still well short of the target.

With wickets tumbling around him, Maduranga Zoysa produced an innings of exceptional quality.

Displaying immense patience, discipline and composure, Zoysa carried his bat for a magnificent unbeaten 126 from 146 balls, striking 14 fours and four sixes. It was a true match-winning innings, expertly balancing attack and defence while absorbing the pressure of the chase.

When Archie Davies fell with 49 runs still required, Ashtead sensed victory.

However, Zoysa refused to let the game slip away.

Supported by the lower order, and with Ed Phillips remaining unbeaten alongside him at the close, Dorking edged over the line on 208-8 with seven balls to spare to complete a superb comeback victory.

The result was built on a complete team performance.

The bowlers shared the wickets, the fielders maintained pressure throughout, and when the chase became increasingly difficult, Zoysa delivered one of the standout innings of the season to guide Dorking home.
