Sarah Homewood Makes a Good Tea, Whilst ECC Shut Up Shop

Sunday saw DCC VCL2 take on Effingham again, having pulled off a great win at their ground only the week before. More of the same was wanted.

The sun was out, the ground looked great. DCC won the toss and elected to bat.
Robbie H (17) & Mo Hamid (21) both started brightly, with Mo in particular unleashing some hefty blows. DK (27) replaced Mo and continued to hit the bad balls before over-reaching for a wide one, caught at gully. Brewy (58) & Andy Homewood (53) then set about the rather erratic bowling attic. Both reached half centuries, with Brewster almost causing injury to the Chave family watching from the car park on the way. A little cameo from Halliday’s pendulum and a mighty heave from Dan Chave pushed the score along to 229-6 after 42. DCC declared.

In reply, Cam H removed one ECC opener 2nd ball of the innings. Good catch by skipper Halliday. Other opener Keay (not Jamie!) punished anything loose, while ECC skipper Cooper took his time and ground out a half century. Mo was brought into the attack and immediately caused issues. One that jagged back about a foot took care of the dangerous Keay (33). Jack H got the next, before a superb one-handed legside catch from Dan behind the stumps accounted for ECC stalwart Farrell. Kyan came on and bowled his best spell for DCC. He bamboozled Cooper (60), stumped by Chave. 126-5. Game on.

DCC were unable to take the required wickets in the final 5 overs as ECC shut up shop. A winning draw for DCC, with some great performances from all.

Just to please Tommy, tea was exceptional……well done Sarah Homewood.
