Game ends as a tie…

Match Report: Capel CC vs Dorking CC – The Slam (Surrey Men's Cup 13)
Date: 21 May 2025
Venue: Capel Cricket Club
A dramatic night of T20 cricket unfolded at Capel Cricket Club as Dorking CC and Capel CC played out a thrilling tie, with both teams finishing on 141/9 in their 20 overs. The electric atmosphere and final-over heroics delivered a Slam classic, with each side taking a point from the encounter.
Capel batted first after Dorking won the toss and opted to field. Early breakthroughs from Jack Street (2-20) and Freddie Cranfield (1-21) kept Capel in check, while George Edwards (3-30) continued his fine form with the ball, striking regularly through the middle overs. Capel’s innings was bolstered by quick contributions from Harry Margetts (26) and Harry Bradley (18), but Dorking’s bowlers kept control, restricting the hosts to 141/9 despite a whopping 32 extras.
In response, Dorking’s top order found resistance from Capel’s disciplined attack. Harry Bradley (3-18) and Rudy Jaques (4-15) were devastating, regularly striking to keep the visitors under pressure. At 117/5, Charlie Kenway had sparked hope with a fiery 32 from just 12 balls, but a flurry of wickets left Dorking teetering.
With 13 year-old Freddie Cranfield at the crease and 8 runs required from the final over, the match reached fever pitch. Freddie showed remarkable composure under pressure, hammering a towering six to bring the equation down dramatically. The game ended with a leg bye off the final ball, completing the tie in spectacular fashion and sealing a breakout moment for the young talent.
It was a proud evening for a very youthful Dorking side, with several teenage players stepping up under lights. Among the memorable moments was seeing Graham Dymond and his son Max Dymond share the field together, showcasing the club's multi-generational spirit and family heartbeat.
A shoutout to Freddie, whose fearless approach and crucial 7* off 3 balls ensured a share of the spoils. Both teams can take pride in the heart and drama they delivered in one of the most nail-biting encounters of the Slam season so far.
