Dorking 3s arrived at Westhumble to play Thames Ditton in good spirits after a winning start to the season. They had a strong XI despite missing 5-wicket hero from last week, Travis Blood, because it was his 18th birthday.

Dorking were put into bat and lost, skipper Tommy Chisman, relatively early caught behind. Peter Horton and Rob Howlett then set about putting on a defendable total. Horton showed England’s Test batsmen how to bat by making a patient 43 off 93. Rob was more fluent, hitting 8 fours and a six in his 61. The middle and lower order tried to get quick runs at the end but didn’t. Traffic lights at the end had Dorking bowled out inside 44 overs for 160. A competitive score and Dorking were confident they could defend it but still felt they left some runs out there.

Will Phillips and Conor Myers took the new ball and again bowled well; threatening the batsmen and making runs hard to come by. They picked up a wicket a piece with the skipper taking a good catch at mid off from Willips, and Freddie Edwards taking a good one-handed catch behind the stumps (making up for an earlier drop, to go with Dave Young’s at slip - both off Myers). Willips finished with 1 for 15 off his 9 overs. Dale Godfrey came on and bowled well, picking up a wicket. Dave Young’s first 4 overs could have been better; his following 5 were excellent though. DY picked up 3 key middle order wickets for 23 runs in 9 overs, his first 4 overs having gone for 21! Tim Brewster had a few overs but George Edwards came on fourth change and picked up 2 wickets in his first over and the game was over. Myers and Chisman then finished things off. Myers finishing with 9 overs, 2 for 14 and Chisman getting his first wicket in “a while” by his own admission - no11 trying the reverse sweep him. All wickets caught - special shout out to Freddie for 5 catches as wicket keeper and Hallas and Brewster for 2 excellent catches each (we won’t mention Dale’s drop).

Dorking won by 33 runs and remained unbeaten
