As the fixture fell on derby day the game was a tough one to call just like the big race as both sides could boast a undefeated record so far in 2018.

With DCC welcoming back Gale, Ridler and Glynn to their ranks skipper Homewood was looking to win the toss and have a bowl. Unfortunately/fortunately whatever way you want to read DCC were batting.
With the Epsom wicket playing tough scoring was hard and DCC lost Gale early.
Then Quickly followed by Glynn thanks to a life saving (catch it or wear it) caught and bowled by skipper Stanger. Time to rebuild and A Homewood and Pestifield settled in nicely. Both senior pro’s latching onto anything loose from the Epsom Lads.

And Homewood hitting hard down the ground DCC were building a great platform but quickly after drinks Pestifield 39 was out LBW sweeping. Skipper Homewood came and went and soon after A Homewood 37 fell to a no ball (not given). Chadwick and Ridler set about another rebuild and duly smashed anything loose. Ridler fell to Stanger for an excellent 32. Quinn came and fell quickly but Chadwick carried on whacking anything up there. Chadwick was finally dismissed for 33. Chris catweazle Weill hit some lusty blows before one kept low and was bowled.

After an excellent BQQ tea and team talk DCC set about the job in hand.
Ridler was back to lead the attack after his and Aston Villa’s Wembley heartache and was quickly back in the wickets trapping Jacobs LBW. In came Luke Hudson to join big brother Ben. DCC knew this was a big partnership and both batters settled in and smashing anything loose. With both Ridler and Weill toying with the Hudson boys it was Weill who eventually came up trumps bowling Luke for 14. Weill went bang again a few balls later bowling Watts for 4 but with Ben Hudson still hanging around Epsom still had a great shout.
Skipper Homewood changed things and got Glynn and the Canadian swinger Chadwick (the ball not what your thinking you dirty lot) into the attack. With Glynn bowling with decent pace runs were hard to come but it was Chadwick who benefited trapping danger man Hudson LBW for a well made 38. Glynn then picked up Salam LBW and the Chadwick got Kay LBW and the chicks felt they were in but as always the last few wickets are always the hardest. Homewood introduced spin at both ends with Quinn and young Jack Homewood with Quinn getting the easiest of caught and bowls to remove Retief. Epsom skipper Stanger and Abeywickrama were not even thinking of any kind of draw as they started to open up as the total was creeping closer and closer until Stanger went for one too many and was caught by bucket hands A Homewood off Quinn.
Spinners off and back to seam with Ridler and Weill as now DCC had to come up with a way to get these last two wickets. Ridler bowled tight and with the pressure building and Pestifield politely reminding the batsmen that draws are rubbish Dunn took on a suicide single to Weill who quickly latched on to the ball and threw it to Edwards, 9 down...
Now came a comedy of errors/confusion in the game, Ridler bowls to Somerford, hits the pads, DCC go up with the umpires finger raised... spark wild celebrations. However the umpire says not out and that he was pointing that the ball had hit his pad... Start again.
After a few minutes of “discussions” about the incident Weill was on the button swinging it all over the place and with his second to last ball swinging in and trapping Abeywickrama LBW for 46, DCC win and keep up their winning ways.
It was a superb bowling and fielding display with bowlers figures of Ridler 1-24, Weill 3-26, Glynn 1-8, Chadwick 2-26 and Quinn 2-25.
