In recent years we as a club have made huge strides on the cricketing field of play with the top two Travelbag Surrey Championship adult sides securing promotions to both now compete in Division 2. Similarly the TSB adult 3rd and 4th XI's now are pushing for league honours.
There has also been a massive improvement in both the fitness and the skills levels of our Junior sides, whose number in 2017 passed 230. Performances in their peer group leagues, have now started to show in our club representative sides as now being competitive.
Sunday cricket within the Village Cricket League and the Surrey Trust, has provided a great transition platform for many of the club's youngsters into adult league styled matches. The Surrey Trust side becoming League Champions at their first attempt.
Much of all of the above successes can be attributed to the improvements in the coaching being offered by the club. In particular, credit must be given to the efforts of Toby Blood and Josh Shrives along with Jason Swift, who over the past few years have pushed the playing boundaries of our club juniors.
The retirement from all cricket of Jason Swift, and an obvious need, now that all teams are playing at higher levels, to raise the fitness and cricketing skills levels further I am delighted to announce that we have recruited Tom Lister as Cricket Head Coach, having responsibilities overseeing all club coaching programmes. Tom takes up his position as of 1st. November.
Tom, who lives with his Cricket mad family in Redhill, is a fitness and conditioning professional, who has held coaching posts through his career with the Michael Vaughan Cricket Academy, Suffolk Cricket and recently as Head Coach of the Travelbag Surrey Championship Premier side Reigate Priory. Tom is also a top level opening batsman who has been a prolific run scorer with the Reigate premier side.
Apart from his skill set, Tom is a very personable guy who has an infectious enthusiasm for cricket and player development. He intends to be a very visible "member" of Dorking Cricket Club. He will work closely with all club coaches, team captains and year group managers to ensure that the very best is achieved for both the individual players and the club.
Along with his coaching Tom will work with the team captains and be involved with team selections at all levels, to help ensure that every selected player is placed to allow them and their teams to perform at their best. Tom will also assist the first XI captain on the field. ....... But, enough said about Tom, you will all have opportunity to meet him, and I am sure he will encourage your comments and suggestions.
Welcome Tom Lister.
