Not all superheroes wear capes...

Superheroes never really fool you. You know from the start of the movie that Superman is behind Clark Kent’s glasses. You know Peter Parker is going to put the lycra on at some point and start spinning webs. Those of us that have watched Charlie Kenway play for the last 10 years knew that the super hero that he is was going to be revealed at some point. Walking out to bat on saturday June 5th, Trev took off his disguise and we saw Super Kenway reveal himself.

Ben Overton got the day started in the best way possible with a smash it run-a-ball fifty. He’d put the first foundation stone in. He also watched Trev nick an early outswinger to first slip and saw the ball hit the deck . Super Kenway had lasered the fielder. He hadn't revealed himself yet. Rob Chave joined the story and built on Ben’s foundations with a solid 30. Trev was leaning on the odd crisp cover drive and ticked himself through to 50. Then the cape came out and Super Kenway revealed himself. In 6 balls he went from 50 to 75 with the sweetest hitting. He’d sent a sonic boom round the outfield and the fielders were floored and didn’t matter anymore. For the next hour, ball after ball disappeared into well manicured gardens. In the pavilion we searched in our cricket bag’s for cricket balls just to keep the game going but in reality all we were doing was loading Oxteds guns to fire at the indestructible. The hundred moment was sweet. A clip down to third man for four, helmet and gloves raised and everybody in the sunny village of Oxted all on their feet cheering. Super Kenway took the applause but he wasn’t done yet. Blood, Johnson and Ikuta joined the cast as support avengers. Super Kenway was still hitting the cleanest of balls to the biggest parts of the ground. No-one wanted to bowl and Oxted fielders were missing January when we weren't allowed out our houses. They didn’t want to face the relentless whirlwind that Super Kenway was unleashing on them. Late in the story Oxted found a chink of Kryptonite to send him back for 173. Again the village was on its feet to clap him off.

Rightly so, Rob Chave told us at the break that the game wasn't done and we should go out to defend 180 which is exactly what we did. In reality, the game was done. The silence from the Oxted changing room told us that. Max Dunn and Tommy Dennis bowled with good pace and chipped into the Oxted batting line up. Kamran put anything but a dorking win beyond doubt with an inspirational over that saw the 3rd, 4th and 5th wickets tumble. Scott Kelsey and Toby Blood cleaned up the tail with the help of some sharp catching and clinical ground fielding.

It was one of those days when you play with the sun on your backs and you totally understand why you pay your membership fee. Every story needs a hero though. Dorking has one today and everyone in the league knows who he is now. His name is really Super Kenway. We still call him Trev
